FUN IN THE SUN Remember When ........When Rockaway Rocked!!! Rockaway Beach is a small town located in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks on the shores of Lake Taneycomo also known as the White River.
Rockaway Beach was founded in 1917 and was the first Resort Community west of the Mississippi River dedicated to the vacationer. The town was "rockin." March through mid-November with families, honeymooners, school groups and even a bootlegger or two. With the onset of progress through the years, however, Rockaway Beach is now located between Tablerock and Powersite Dams. The water temperature dropped to a cool 55 - 58 degrees which did not coincide with most water sports and activities. Soon the sandy beach disappeared and many resort owners moved on to other opportunities. The town became neglected and forgotten leaving those that remained with little resources. After several years an influx of new business owners began working on plans to rejuvenate Rockaway Beach. It was a long process, but with a lot of effort and perseverance the rebuilding process began and continues today.
"Remember
When .... When Rockaway Rocked!" was conceived to preserve the history of
our
small town which was at one time the largest resort area in the
Ozarks. Along with the completion of the Lake Taneycomo Aquatic Restoration
Project (Lake cleanup for we simple folk) was the development of our new Beach with real sand where
y’all can get your piggies wet and bask in the sun.
You and yer
friends and kin can now enjoy some fun in the sun at Rockaway
Beach. Our Beach has yet to be named, but it can be assured that it is a
focal point for our out of town visitors. For you fishin folk, a
refurbished Fishing Pier and Causeway are available for your use. Best of all, you can enjoy all of this without any admission
fees.

Day Weekend 2004 marked the Grand Opening and Kickoff of the new
“Swimming Hole” at Rockaway Beach on Lake Taneycomo.
It’s been a long time since we had a real beach in Rockaway, but we
can now officially put the “Beach” back in Rockaway Beach! Rockaway Beach Now!
So if you and your kin and friends have an inkling to have some "Fun in the Sun", come on over to Rockaway Beach, Missouri where y'all can spend quality time with each other you won't forget!
